TOP TIPS ....

Suggest to clients that they either book a tour with you or confirm their tickets shortly after arriving in Cape Town.

Suggest to clients looking to experience several wineries – and tastings - that they do so via an organised tour. This will take out the need for a ‘designated driver’.

The Port Elizabeth area is one of the best cities to suggest a township experience.

Consider booking Durban-bound clients into a hotel in either Umhlanga or Ballitto for their first night. The two coastal towns have great  great hotels such as The Oysters Box (Umhlanga) and Hotel Izulu (Ballitto).

Don’t ignore the game reserves of KZN when clients enquire about asafari. Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park offers basic but comfortable accommodation and is a very affordable alternative to the province’s five-star lodges such as Phinda and Thanda.

Your clients should consider touring the Eastern Cape’s Indian Ocean coastline, staying in the numerous excellent lodges along its route.

The best way to see Mpumalanga’s many scenic attractions is to suggest a self-drive itinerary or escorted tour over two or three days that travels the famed Panorama Route.

September Stats: World Cup spin-off so soon?

The arrivals statistics for September have been released by StatsSA and show enormous promise from both core and emerging markets. The total arrivals into the country grew by 12,9% with a total of 658 565 visitors, up from 583 352 last year September. While overseas arrivals showed double-digit growth of 25,1% from 136 767 to 171 158, African arrivals grew by 9,4% from 443 578 to 485 090.Traditional core markets showed huge growth over the month, possibly a result of displaced travellers who would normally have travelled over the period of the World Cup. The UK, SA’s top market, swelled 11,3%, while the US market, grew by an enormous 30,2%.European markets were also positive with only The Netherlands dropping off slightly for the period. Asian markets performed exceptionally well over the period with China and India showing their strength as emerging economies.Australia has battled its way into the country’s top five source markets with almost 60% growth in travellers visiting the…Continue

City of London honours South Africa

Aaron Mokoena, of Bafana Bafana fame is only the second South African to be awarded the Freedom of the City of London, last week and  personifies the gains the country made in hosting the 2010 World Cup.Aaron Mokoena, who led Bafana Bafana during South Africa's hosting of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, radiated South African pride and dignity as he read the age-old declaration of honour bestowing on him the Freedom of the City of London. On 10 November, standing before the robed Chamberlain's Clerk and a top-hatted orderly with a long red jacket and a distinctly Dickensian air, Aaron Mokoena performed the ancient ritual of obedience to the Queen and the Lord Mayor of the City of London.Mokoena is only the second South African to receive the freedom of the city. The first was Nelson Mandela, in 1996 while on a state visit to Britain. The original purpose was to bestow the freedom to trade,  Other famous names to have been award freeman status include Winston Churchill, Benjamin Disraeli,…Continue
